toe
Bio
toe is a Japanese music group. While mentioned in many post-rock circles, their song structure and dynamics are similar to many popular math rock artists.
toe is composed of Kashikura Takashi on drums, Mino Takaaki on guitar, Yamane Satoshi on bass guitar, and Yamazaki Hirokazu on guitar. Toe has formally played with this line-up since the band’s inception in 2000.
The vast majority of the music is instrumental and features the swift and acute drumming of Takashi. The band is also known for its melodic, clean guitar settings. Additionally, the compositions have repetition from typical rock motifs, but use very subtle changes in beat and rhythm to form a unique sound. The band has changed their sound over their musical tenure by incorporating acoustic guitars, rhodes piano, and vibraphones in their most recent releases.
The band tours regularly in Japan, and can most notably be compared to acts such as Pele and The Album Leaf.

Last fall, we released the band’s newest effort, The Future Is Now, on vinyl & CD ? and we’ll be adding to that by releasing the following on vinyl as well:
- Songs, Ideas We Forgot
- The Book About My Idle Plot on a Vague Anxiety
- New Sentimentality

Toe is a band that’s an absolute mainstay in our music collection, a staple of this niche (and well beyond), and one of the most important bands (to us, anyway) of the last decade so we?re pretty pumped about this, you guys!
We’ll have more details involving release dates, pressing info, pre-orders, etc. soon. Hope you’re all as excited as we are!
Yeah yeah yeah yeah!

Toe - The Future is Now ep (Teal Blue /300)
I always assumed after the demise of Drive Thru Records that I would never trust a label so whole heartedly that I could buy a record without hearing much of an album or ep. Then comes along Topshelf Records, a label that has built that same trust with me. Hearing on all of their social networks how psyched they were to release this ep got me stoked on it, without even hearing a single note. I figured I would surprise myself by not downloading, or listening to this until it arrived at my doorstep.
I was so pleasantly surprised with how great this ep turned out; both musically and in its packaging. A solid jacket with a fold out poster insert. They color matched the record and the artwork in a manner that was damn near perfect.
Not only is this release beautiful, it sounds just as good. I assume the few clicks and pops I hear are me needing to clean my stylus, Because there is no way TSR would let that happen. Needless to say, the days of Drive Thru Records are back, albeit in a completely different form?.but I am just as excited as I was when I was 15.
This rules ? thanks!
